Building Support Networks was created by Hannah Olson
in collaboration with the 2025-2026 Badger Supports Programs Team.
College can be an exciting yet isolating time, and knowing who and what resources are available can make all the difference. Building Support Networks helps students understand that they are not alone and that it is okay to turn for support in all different aspects of their lives.
Coming into college, many students have heard the cliché advice about “growing your network” but few know how to actually do it. This workshop turns that vague advice into something practical and personal. Participants learn how to identify different types of support in their own lives and use the guidance provided to grow their networks both in college and after.
The workshop was designed by students who have been through that same learning process—researching, reflecting, and realizing that building a strong support network is not only about making connections but also about creating a foundation for personal growth, resilience, and long-term success.
Hannah’s favorite slide is “The Circle of Support.” It visually represents how different types of support connect to form a person’s overall network, placing you at the center and showing the many people, communities, and resources that surround and strengthen you. It’s a powerful reminder that support is all around, even when it’s easy to overlook.
